When we came back from Florence last August, we found little ways to incorporate our vacation memories into our every day lives. Our theme since we started going on vacation each year was to find ways to bring the vacation home. And since arriving back from Italy, there was so much to bring back with us.We started using our cappuccino machine again and even bought a juicer to recreate the fresh juice we had enjoyed every morning at Ditta Artigianale. But the only thing we had for our walls was a small calendar with water colors of famous sights around Florence.I knew I wanted to eventually hang up artwork that reminded us of Florence, but I didn’t want to pick something random. The artwork in our apartment has been a small collection built up over the years, and each piece means something special to us. And because we had stayed in Florence for two weeks we really got to know the city, street by street as we walked each night to different restaurants and returned back to our hotel by the river.That’s why I was so excited when Modern Map Art reached out to me about collaborating for this post. My favorite version of their Florence maps was immediately the black and white. I loved how minimalist the map looks, but I could still clearly see the Arno River flowing through the center of Florence and some of our favorite streets to explore.I’ve matted and framed most of the artwork in our home and I decided to frame this Florence map print with a white matte and an antique looking blue frame that I got from Home Goods. I paired it with a colorful print of the Duomo that I got from Etsy. I love the contrast between the black and white and the pop of color above it. When we’re in a home one day I would love to get a map of each of the places that we’ve visited and hang them together on a gallery wall.Since we’ve moved into our new apartment I’ve enjoyed making this space our own through hanging artwork, new DIY projects, and painting the kitchen and bedroom. We might not be here for too many years, but while we’re here, I wanted to make the most of it. Do you have any suggestions on making a space your own?
