Do you ever go into your closet and think, I have nothing to wear. I confess I’ve done this often. I’m not sure what to pair together, what will keep me warm, or if I should I wear layers. Especially in the winter when I need to stay warm, I found the perfect work outfit that’s feminine, flattering, and cozy. And before you go out and spend Christmas gift cards on new outfits or incorporate gifts into your wardrobe already I’ve included a few ideas to help dressing in the New Year easier. Below are a few ways I’ve rediscovered what I already own along with adding in some new classic pieces to my closet.
1. Organize Your Closet
One method that has transformed my dresser and closet was reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Upby Marie Kondo. The Kondo method recommends that you dig deep into your entire wardrobe and put it all in one spot to sort through. Marie Kondo insists that you only keep the pieces that bring you joy and that’s exactly what I did. My living room looked like a mess but by the time I was done I had nearly two full garbage bags of clothing to donate and a closet that was easier to look through.
2. Rediscover Something Old
Many of the clothes that withstood the purge were from Banana Republic. It’s been my go to since I was in college and many of the clothes I bought back then are still in my closet today and in great condition. I wore Banana Republic for my college graduation and I’ve even worn a few pieces for the job interviews I’ve had since then. I find that when I get rid of the items that I don’t appreciate or don’t fit anymore it allows for new appreciation of items that I’ve had for a long time.
3. Buy Something New
I love finding new things though and I recently bought two new pieces at Banana Republic to add to my work wardrobe. I try to pick pieces that are classic and will last me years. Often if I find a piece I like, I’ll buy two or three in the same color.
If you’re like me – and always freezing cold – this sweater is perfect. Even though I gravitate toward darker colors in the winter, I thought it would be fun to brighten up my winter wardrobe with this blush pink sweater.
Even in the winter it’s possible to wear ankle pants. (I just head into work in warm socks and boots and change into heels at the office). I love the option of wearing ankle pants, because the regular length pants fit me even though I’m tall!
Hope you enjoy the look and are able to incorporate some of these tips in the New Year!
