Date Night in Montclair
I love surprising Chris every year with a fun date. Last year I surprised him with tickets to see Richard III at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. And this year I surprised him with tickets to see Amos Lee in concert.
I was excited to put together a date night outfit for you guys but I'm on crutches after falling on the ice and crutches do not look so good in a photo shoot. Despite the crutches I didn't want to cancel our date, so on Sunday night we headed to Montclair for dinner and a concert. Montclair is a great little city with so many restaurants that it was hard to choose one, but we settled on Laboratorio Kitchen which we really enjoyed. A lot of restaurants in Montclair are BYOB so we brought a bottle of red with us.
We made a reservation via Open Table - which makes reserving a table online super easy - and we were seated right away when we arrived. One of the ways I pick a new restaurant is by menu size. I always think that less is more! I love a small, carefully crafted menu and Laboratorio had six entrees to choose from in addition to some house-made pastas. Chris got the New York Strip in a cognac pepper sauce and I got the Idaho Rainbow Trout in a paprika butter sauce. Both of our entrees were delicious! We finished our meal by splitting a chocolate lava cake and vanilla gelato. Chris got a cappuccino and I got an espresso.
After our meal we headed over to the Wellmont Theater for our concert with Amos Lee. For Christmas I got Amos Lee’s live album from his performance at Red Rocks in Colorado (has anyone been to Red Rocks? It’s my dream to go some day!) and his brand new album Spirit.
This was our second concert to see Amos Lee (the first was two years ago) and we enjoyed this show more than the last one! Does anyone else think he’s channeling Prince in that red jacket?! If you’ve never heard him before then I recommend you listen to his live performance of Windows Rolled Down performed live at Red Rocks. Amos Lee is a mix of rock and soul but so much more than that - listen for yourself!
We had such a great date night out and were so blown away by Amos Lee’s kindness on stage. He interacted and joked with the audience in between songs and even played a Chill in the Air off of one of his old albums for a soldier in the audience who requested it. We’re not sure when Amos Lee will be back in New Jersey but when he is, we’ll be there too!
